Peter Camacho (U.S. Army Special Forces)

In 2006, Camacho, a master of the “Green Berets” – special warfare units that have been around since before World War II – joined the Iraq Army after graduating from a Special Forces-focused boot camp. He served in Iraq until 2011, when he transferred to Fort Leonard Wood. He was deployed to both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Darrin H. Condon (U.S. Army)

The 24-year-old first deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 for what was described as a “non-combat” mission; he returned home in 2012 with a “non-combat” tattoo to remind himself of the sacrifices he’s made. “This is not one of those situations where, if I don’t do this, I’m never going to see my family again,” He said during a military review last year.

James E. Hargrave (U.S. Army)

Hargrave, 23, a former Marine Corps officer and a member of the “Eagle Scouts,” was one of the first military personnel to serve on active duty in Iraq in 2007 and 2008, serving as a patrol officer on U.S.-led operations in the province of Anbar.

Tommy Dallimore (U.S. Army)

Dallimore, 31, spent a year working with Special Operations Command in Afghanistan, where he was responsible for providing tactical planning and leadership for Special Operations forces and their international partner forces. He earned the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts.

Tommy E. Gordon (U.S. Army)

Gordon spent five years with the Army in Afghanistan before returning home, where he currently serves as an officer in the U.S. Army, according to his service record. He was shot and wounded after a roadside bomb in October 2009, but later returned home with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

Michael D. Grissom (U.S. Navy)

A graduate of the Naval Academy, Grissom is a reservist with the Navy and will be returning to graduate school this August, Navy spokesman Cmdr. Michael Klimas said Thursday during a news briefing. Grissom was one of seven U.S. service members killed while battling insurgents in Fallujah, Iraq, in 2004.
